Furikake is a condiment sprinkled over hot rice. It usually comes in flake form and comes in a wide variety of flavors. This particular furikake is made with tarako.

Tarako is a very popular ingredient in Japanese cuisine, often eaten whole, in onigiri, or as a pasta sauce. It is plain, salted pollock roe, an ingredient that resembles clumped fish eggs. Introduced to Japan after the Russo-Japanese War, pollock roe originates from Alaska ("mentai" translates to "Alaska" and "ko" to "child").

The Marumiya brand is particularly renowned for its very high quality furikake.

Made in Japan.
